Many students have asked if they could use an alternate textbook of their choosing. Normally this would seem an odd request, but since I am not in the habit of assigning projects directly from a textbook, you can choose your own "companion" textbook for Access. Keep in mind that I cannot be responsible for topics not discussed in the textbook of your choice. Also, if you choose not to buy a textbook at all, you will be completely dependent on my lectures.

If you choose to buy the textbook above, listed as required, consider the ebook option available at coursesmart.com. Ebooks are considerably lower in price than the hard copy version.

Note: The collegehas now made the switch from the 2007 version to 2010 version. If you are purchasing Access for the first time, you will no doubt be buying the 2010 version, and so may want to buy a 2010 textbook. If you are using 2007, you will just be flexible with the instructions and assignments. page references and so on.

Both the online class and the on campus class, is designed to be completed in 17.5 weeks. We follow the college calendar exactly. Although there is a lot of flexibility built into the course design, this is not a self-paced course. You are expected to follow the pace as outlined in the table below.

There are weekly projects that are graded. Some weeks,these projects are versy short and simple, others are more involved. In additon. there is a midterm project and a final project. you are also expected to participate in discussions using the discussion board.

Your grade will be based upon the following:

50% projects, 25% midterm, and 25% final.

Office Hours: When arranged with instructor – MW starting at 12:30 in Cloud Hall, Main Campus. Alternate times can also be arranged by appointment.

This class, on campus, is taught at a fast pace using lectures, overhead projector, and hands-on instructions. The main goal of this class, and the approach, whether online or on campus, is to foster critical thinking. Less focus is placed on following step-by-step indtructions in a textbook. The textbook is for outside reading and is meant to compliment the in-class lectures. Please check the college calendar for important dates such as drops and withdrawals.
