You should test a web page or web site before you publish it
to a web server that has FrontPage Server Extensions installed. You should
install the Personal Web Server software on your computer and configure it with
FrontPage Server Extensions. You must
have the Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0 software and be connected to a
network (or personal computer), and have the TCP/IP networking protocol
configured on your machine. You must be running Windows 98 for effectiveness.
Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS) is available on the
Windows 98 CD-ROM or can be downloaded
from Microsoft’s Web site. You must have TCP/IP networking protocol installed
on your computer for PWS to work. If you need help configuring the TCP/IP
protocol, you should go to online HELP. The Personal Web Server will not run on
a Windows NT server. You need to install Microsoft Internet Information Server
web server software (IIS) on a Windows NT server.
To
Install PWS From Windows 98SE CD-ROM:
- CLOSE
ALL APPLICATIONS.
- INSERT
THE WINDOWS 98SE CD-ROM.
- CLICK
THE START MENU.
- CLICK
RUN TO OPEN THE DIALOG BOX.
- BROWSE
TO LOCATE THE FILE: \Setup\Add\Add-ons\Pws\folder
- DOUBLE-CLICK
Setup.exe
- Click
OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
The Personal Web Manager is used to access the Personal Web
Server menu. To access the Personal Web manager: DOUBLE-CLICK OR RIGHT CLICK
THE PERSONAL WEB SERVER ICON (IT IS RUNNING) AT THE TRAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE
SCREEN.
